Description of UPVC Pipe for Water Supply

PVC stands for polyvinyl chloride, and the "U" in PVC-U stands for unplasticized, which means it does not contain plasticizer. Plasticizer is added to PVC materials to make them flexible and reduce brittleness. Since it does not contain this substance, PVC-U as rigid PVC is the most common type of PVC used for pipes and fittings. It is used to transport drinking water, wastewater, farmland irrigation and other engineering projects. PVC pipe is durable, lightweight, easy to handle, affordable, and 100% recyclable because it contains no plasticizers.

Connection methods of PVC pipe are flange connection, threaded joint fitting connection, elastic sealing ring type socket fitting connection, solvent bonding type socket fitting connection and compression fitting connection.

Advantages of U PVC pipe for Water Supply

  • 1. Excellent water tightness: The installation of PVC-U pipes is by bonding or rubber ring. It has good water tightness.
  • 2. Excellent chemical and corrosion resistance: PVC-U pipe has excellent chemical, alkali and corrosion resistance.
  • 3. No pollution to the water: PVC-U pipe is one of the commonly used pipes for tap water. It does not affect the water quality according to the results of the dissolution test.
  • 4. High mechanical strength: PVC-U pipe has external pressure resistance, very high water pressure resistance, impact resistance, etc. It is safe to use in many project conditions.
  • 5. Small fluid resistance: PVC-U pipe has smooth walls and small fluid resistance. Its Manning coefficient is only 0.009. Its delivery capacity can be increased by 20% compared with cast iron pipes of the same diameter and 40% of concrete pipes.
  • 6. The maintenance cost is low: according to the actual engineering experience. The maintenance of PVC-U pipe is simple, without expensive expenses and complicated tools. According to actual engineering experience, its maintenance cost is only 30% of that of cast iron pipe or concrete pipe.
  • 7. PVC-U pipe is light weight and easy to handle: the construction is fast to lower the construction costs. The density of PVC-U pipe is about 1400kg/m3, which is only 1/5 of cast iron pipe and 1/3 of concrete pipe. Compared with traditional pipe, the construction cost can reduce by 30%-50%.
  • 8. Anti-biting by rats: PVC-U pipes not be attacked by rodents because they are not a source of nutrients. Rats will not bite the pipes confirmed by the National Sanitation Foundation in Michigan test report.
  • 9. Long life: Based on the information from ISO and JIS, the designed service life is more than 50 years. The strength after 50 years is simulated by 1000 hours of long-term hydraulic test.
