Description of Chlorinated Polyvinyl Chloride(C-PVC) pipe system for hot and cold water

PVC (polyvinyl chloride) chlorinated by free radical chlorination. CPVC is produced by adding chlorine to PVC during a slurry or fluid bed chlorination process. The chlorination reaction is initiated by UV light. Chlorinated PVC is mixed with the ingredients needed for further processing for the desired properties. Chlorine added to PVC gives CPVC higher temperature performance and improves fire and corrosion resistance. Pipes and fittings made from C-PVC can withstand a wider range of temperatures. This makes C-PVC a popular choice for plumbing systems in residential and commercial buildings.

CPVC pipe is available in nominal sizes ranging from 1/2 to 2 inches copper pipe size (CTS) and pipe sizes ranging from 1/2 to 24 inches (Sch 40/80) iron pipe size (IPS). CPVC pipe is SDR11 (1/2 to 2 inches) with standard hydrostatic pressure ratings of 400 psi at 73ºF (2,750 kPa at 23ºC) and 100 psi at 180ºF (690 kPa at 82ºC).
